Another native of the Kickstarter crowdfunding site reached a full release. The path from the start of collecting funds was quite long – almost two years have passed since the announcement. The morning does not happen good

In Point’n’Click Adventure, the plot is usually in the first place, and no one has been waiting for something new in the gameplay from the genre for a long time. Stasis No exception-before us is the story of an ordinary person from a science fiction future who has fallen into very unusual circumstances.

John Marachek, who went on a space trip with his family, wakes up in a stasis camera after leaving Anabiosis. Awakening does not please him at all – instead of the final point of the route, he is on a completely different spaceship, his wife and daughter are not nearby, and the local inhabitants are completely in no hurry to make clarity into what is happening. More precisely, the members of the crew «Grumleik» (the so -called the cosmlet on which the main character was) and you can’t find at all, so you will have to go in search of loved ones, trying to figure out what happened in the way.

There is no doubt that there was something strange here-not a single living soul, but full of the dead with signs of violent death. The ship is a scientific, and a sophisticated player, of course, will immediately guess that the death of the Grumleyka crew is probably to blame for the next dangerous experiments with a biological weapon that rebelled against its creators. An abandoned ship, predatory creatures who killed most of the team, and crazy scientists who have experiences on people … A complete set of stamps of the science fiction horror, from the «stranger» and Dead Space to the «horizon of events».

However, if you initially tune in to just like that and not expect any revelations from the game in terms of the plot (and the developers still promised a classic NF stupid on Kickstarter), then the story of the Grumleka looks quite organic, despite the general banality. Although, if you are not lazy to monitor the development of the plot, you can notice some interesting little things that allow you to look at what is happening from a slightly different angle even after passing the game and getting an answer to all questions.

The authors are not shy about getting out with the heroes of the game with maximum cruelty. Moreover, it looks all “in an adult”, without any grotesque, and is not limited to the ordinary bloodstream of meat, which

Judging by the notes of the dead, among the members of the Grumleyka team, no less disgusting people could be found, and their number exceeds all reasonable limits. One for the sake of survival is ready to kill a person who considers him a friend, the other does not hesitate to conduct experiments on people in the name of science and is lamented only because of the poor quality of the “material”, the third is completely psychopath, which was obsessed with the idea of ​​a superman. There are practically no adequate ones, and those that are, die much faster than their selfish colleagues. However, judging by the same records of magazines and eloquent bloody traces in each compartment, death overtook everyone sooner or later.

The idea with the presentation of the plot by tossing the player of various notes and electronic messages in the terminals is not new, and the plot itself turned out, to put it mildly, secondary. But in general, the history of Grumleyka is not a desire to miss reading all these records, letters and diaries. Moreover, this will have to do most of the time between the solution of riddles and looking at perfectly drawn levels.

The terrible beauty

Stasis As if he returns the player a dozen years ago, during the sunset of spiting graphics, when the developers began to experiment with 3D with might and main, and the good old sprites gradually faded into the background. The Brotherhood created classical isometric adventure, but you should not rejoice ahead of time, even if you have extremely positive memories associated with games of that era. “Classics”, in addition to the most beautiful locations, includes the absence of any intelligible interface, a terrible main menu, low by modern standards resolution and animation of the level of the last century.

On the other hand, the unique atmosphere of the game creates precisely manually painted levels, and low resolution of the picture – their only drawback. Some ask for a desktop as wallpaper, some are generally done so well that it seems that this is not a “back-in” of a computer game, but a real picture. Everything is designed in the same gloomy-technical style: futuristic equipment, somewhere broken, and somewhere continuing to work, despite the absence of people, a puddle of blood, flickering of emergency lighting and the darkness of abandoned compartments … The impression is spoiled only by the gait of the protagonist-hismovements look unnatural and do not fit into the overall picture.

As for sound accompaniment, it is remembered mainly by frequent sobs and cries of John himself about what is happening around. Music enters into business quite rarely, but where it comes to the fore, it has to be exclusively to the place.

Without surprises

In terms of gameplay Stasis It is unlikely that he can surprise anyone. Standard process for the genre: run by locations, look for objects, figure out how to use them, and solve various riddles in the form of a mini-game. There is no variability of passage-everything is purely linear. It is worth carefully reading the notes left by the deceased team of the ship, otherwise it will not be possible to find a solution to some mysteries. The latter are mainly quite logical, fit into the entourage and contribute to the creation of the very gloomy atmosphere of what is happening. Fortunately, there are almost no cerebrial tasks like “how to fix an electric generator with an ax and pillows”, but in abundance all kinds of manipulations with corpses, rotten insults, torn limbs and other unpleasant actions.

From such a close neighborhood with already dead and still alive (but not at all hospitable) inhabitants of the ship, John may well solve all the problems in one fell swoop, just committing suicide. In any case, the player has such an opportunity, and you can make suicide with the help of almost any found object – just use it on the main character. Next will follow a small video where Marachek kills himself in a variety of ways. Nothing special – a “feature” for the “feature” and another touch to a constant feeling of hopelessness, which causes Stasis.

You can master the game in one evening. Passing takes exactly so much time as not to get tired. There is nothing new here, as expected, the developers promised the classical adventure, and they kept their promise. Nevertheless, in Stasis There was a place for an excellent design and an interesting plot, and even the same “soul” thanks to all of the above – at least.
